Splendid E-Zine

Aiding and Abetting Zine

"Lush, ethereal country-rock may seem a curious concept, but this local singer-songwriter manages to combine heaven and Earth in 11 songs that are both mysterious and urgent."
Mark Jenkins, Washington Post

"There is a small but consistent indie-rock performance space in this area open to no-name touring bands thanks to the booking efforts of the Galaxy Hut's Alice Despard. Now, the Arlington bar owner gets her chance to take the Galaxy's stage -- or, more accurately, floor -- in honor of her own CD, Push Me Pull You. The album's 11 songs are the product of consistently enticing songwriting, conceived in heartache and birthed in a smoky bar. As showcased in the pleading "Firmament" and the ragged "Red Clay," Despard's music has a dusty quality that some would dub alternative country, but there's a rough edge left all around the music, as well as in Despard's voice that suggests plain old rock 'n' roll a la Patti Smith."
